Offering patients alternative ways to heal their bodies and minds
About The Doctor
Dr. Anita Lee Davis has been in the field of Acupuncture for 20+ years. Awake Acupuncture was established in 2008 in Solana Beach and moved to Encinitas in 2021. Anita has a strong background working with those in addiction recovery. She has worked at Betty Ford in Rancho Mirage, Casa Palmera in Del Mar, Akua Mind & Body in San Diego and Villa Kali Ma in La Costa.
Anita trained in Beijing at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology. After studying there for three years, she had the experience of not only learning the principals and foundations of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), but also the philosophy of the culture and how it relates to TCM. For Dr. Lee Davis, health and healing is not only about the physical aspect. She believes that much is centered in our minds and hearts; therefore, for full healing to take place – the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional must all be in balance.
From Beijing, she transferred to the Southern California University of Health Sciences to graduate with a Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine as well as a Doctor of Chiropractic. With both acupuncture and chiropractic being powerful, natural, and holistic alternatives to medicine, she has an extremely broad and expansive education in alternative methods of healing. Dr. Lee Davis also has her Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) helping make her well-rounded in all fields of science.
She’s traveled, experienced, energized, and excited to be of service to the people of her community. Awake Acupuncture is her dream practice and she is confident her vision of true health for the people of San Diego will be manifested.
About Acupuncture
The intent of acupuncture is to promote health and alleviate disease. The method by which this is accomplished, though it may seem strange and mysterious to many, has been time tested over thousands of years and continues to be validated today. The perspective from which Anita views health and disease hinges on concepts of “vital energy, energetic balance, and energetic imbalance.” Just as the Western medical doctor monitors the blood flowing through blood vessels and the messages traveling via the nervous system, Anita assesses the flow and distribution of this “vital energy” or “qi” within its pathways, known as “meridians and channels.”
Dr. Lee is able to influence health and disease by stimulating certain areas along these meridians. Traditionally these areas or acupoints were stimulated by fine, slender needles. Today, many additional forms of stimulation are incorporated, including herbs, electricity, magnets, and lasers. Still, the aim remains the same — adjust the vital energy so the proper amount reaches the proper place at the proper time. This helps your body heal itself.
Acupuncture is just one form of therapy used within the coherent system of healing known as Oriental Medicine. Oriental Medicine includes herbology, dietetics, and special exercises (such as Tai Chi and Qi Gong), and is a complete medical system unto itself and is not another branch of modern Western medicine. Acupuncture evolved from principles and philosophies unique to Oriental thinking and Oriental Medicine, and is most effectively applied when done in accordance with those principles.
